Sexually Transmitted Disease Specialists
An "STD" is a Sexually Transmitted Disease - these are infectious diseases which spread from person to person during intimate sexual contact. Approximately 30% of men and 70% of women who have an STD have no symptoms at all. If not diagnosed and treated early, STD's can cause serious illness or lifelong disability. Common STD's include gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis, genital herpes, syphilis, urethritis, genital warts, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV.
A person can be infected with several different types of STDs but have no symptoms or knowledge that they are infected. This is part of the reason that STDs are spreading so quickly. Routine screening for STDs is very important for the health of all sexually active people. Our doctors and medical providers provide routine screening for both men & women, and we also diagnose & treat symptomatic cases. Blood, urine, and swab samples are submitted for extensive personalized laboratory testing. All patients are personally examined by an experienced medical provider. Results are available in a matter of days, and treatment is provided immediately. The doctors can provide personalized counseling and discussion regarding STD risk, transmission, and treatment.
"Non Specific Urethritis" and other STD's
Many patients complain of persistent urinary discomfort despite being "tested for everything" at medical clinics. Upon further investigation, it is often discovered that most of these patients have only been tested for HIV, hepatitis, herpes, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea and sometimes trichomonas. Unfortunately, this is not a complete STD profile. There are quite a few atypical STD's that require very special testing in order to detect. If you believe that you have been "tested for everything" and found to have been negative, but you continue to have symptoms, please contact us for a more complete consultation and evaluation. We will be happy to perform a more comprehensive evaluation of your symptoms, including more sophisticated and rarely performed STD screening tests.
